Job Description

The MEH Alliance on Hinkley Point C, is seeking an experienced candidate to fill new and challenging Quality Welding Engineer role on site at Hinkley Point C in Bridgwater, Somerset.

As part of this role, you will support the Welding Manager to ensure that all Welding and Welding Related matters within the MEHA are delivered to the highest standards appropriate to the particular requirements of the provision of a Nuclear Power Generating Facility at HPC incorporating all applicable RCC-M specification requirements for materials and workmanship.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • To ensure the development of welding processes and procedures that satisfy the requirements of the specification.  
  • To ensure that the most appropriate and suitable methods / processes are applied to ensure the expectation of right first-time quality outputs are delivered.    
  • To provide expert subject matter technical advice, comment and guidance on all Welding and Welding Related matters to the MEHA.
  • To support the establishment, development, and execution of the Welding Strategy in support of the MEHA project requirements.
  • To support the Non-Destructive Testing (NDT – e.g., RT, UT and VT) strategy, sometimes referred to as Non-Destructive Examination (NDE), to ensure safe and efficient analysis techniques are applied to evaluate the properties of welded joints.
  • To act as an SME for Welding Related Matters for stakeholders including, but not limited to, Client (e.g. TCO, RD, DI, JDO), JV Nominated Suppliers, Strategic Suppliers and others.
  • To support the governance and oversight of the implementation all welding processes and procedures to achieve the HPC quality goals.
  • To actively promote the HPC Nuclear Safety Culture
Experience Required
  • 5-10 years’ experience in Welding leadership roles within a major EPC project, preferably nuclear.
  • Experience within the Nuclear, Mechanical and Process Plant sectors.
  • Extensive experience within a welding environment.
  • Experience of nuclear codes in particular RCC-M. Completed ECITB RCC-M Mentor Guide (or working towards).
  • Familiar with WPQRs over a wide range of materials.
  • Sound knowledge, understanding and effective application of ISO 9001.
  • Sound knowledge and application of BS EN ISO 9000 series, PED 2014/68/EU; EN1090; EN ISO 3834-2 (EN 729-2) EN13480; RCC-M; associated NDE standards, and other sector specific Quality Standards (e.g., GQAS; IAEA GSR Part 2 for Nuclear Quality and Nuclear Safety Culture).
  • Pro-active and visible leadership in establishing a positive Nuclear Safety Culture, with the ability to lead an effective continuous improvement culture, and relentlessly drive-up welding standards and performance, reducing errors and rework, etc.
  • Sound knowledge and awareness of the requirements for Licence Conditions applicable to Licensed Nuclear Sites.
  • Sound knowledge, understanding and application of Project Management principles.
  • Successful candidate must be able to provide leadership; to deliver a fast-start and step-change impact, improve SQEP status, develop team skills and capability; and work collaboratively with integrity, agility, and enthusiasm.
  • Teamwork and interpersonal communication skills, meeting management, presentation and report writing skills.

Qualifications Needed
  • Minimum of HNC/HND and Apprenticeship in relevant discipline (or equivalent).
  • Relevant professional Accreditation (CEng/IEng or EngTech with Engineering Council etc.)
  • Diploma in Welding – Technologist / Engineer (or working towards)
  • Qualified Lead Auditor
  • Qualified Welding Inspector – e.g., CSWIP 3.1 / 3.2 or PCN 2 / 3
  • Can achieve security clearance (BPSS or higher).
  • Post Graduate Qualification in Welding Engineering
  • Chartered Engineer
  • IWE/EWE (or working towards)
  • Level II EN 9712 Radiographic Interpretation
