Job Description

The MEH Alliance on Hinkley Point C, is seeking an experienced candidate to fill the challenging role of SQL Database Developer on site at Bridgwater, Somerset.

The SQL Database Developer will support the MEH Lead Planner manage the integrated level 4 schedule which encompasses the full MEH scope.  The level 4 schedule also reflects interfaces with other tier 1 partners to ensure they are fully integrated.  

The SQL Database Developer is part of the MEH Programme, working with the PMO planning team, Delivery Integration and the Area Management teams.

Roles and Responsibilities

Safety is the overriding priority for any activity performed by the MEH Programme, which includes Nuclear Safety as well as Industrial Safety. Planning the work must also recognise the importance of a strong Nuclear Safety and Quality culture and the importance of a right first-time attitude.

The SQL Database Developer ill be responsible for developing, testing, improving and maintaining new and existing databases to help users retrieve data effectively.

As part of MEH Planning team, you will work closely with PMO planning team to ensure system consistency. You will also collaborate with stakeholders to provide technical support and identify new requirements. Communication and organization skills are keys for this position, along with a problem-solution attitude.

Ultimately, you should be able to ensure all database systems run effectively and securely on a daily basis.

  • Building databases and validating their stability and efficiency
  • Creating program views, functions and stored procedures
  • Writing optimized SQL queries for integration with other applications
  • Designing database tables and dictionaries
  • Developing scripts, procedures and triggers for application development
  • Maintaining data quality and backups and overseeing database security
  • Develop schedule metrics and works information submissions to allow measurement of schedule adherence and planned/actual schedule performance.
  • Providing support and input to the Sizewell C project team to ensure transfer of knowledge and tools
Experience Required

The SQL Database Developer will have the ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders. Strong management and communication skills and commercial awareness are essential. Specific knowledge, skills, qualification, and experience include:

  • Experience and understanding of working in a Nuclear and Safety Quality Culture.
  • Understanding and awareness of working in a highly regulated environment.

  • Excellent organisational and communication skills.
  • Detailed planning development knowledge
  • Detailed knowledge of Planning, 3D models and 4D planning tools and construction sequencing.
  • Good working knowledge of commercial principles affecting construction matters.
  • Ability to produce informative, concise reports.
  • Motivational approach and the ability to energise team members by building a climate of trust and understanding.
  • Awareness of project change control and, risk management processes.
  • Extensive working knowledge in the delivery of large complex construction projects.

Desirable

  • Understanding of Engineering, Procurement and Construction activities and the integration of these activities
Qualifications Needed
  • Proven work experience as a Database Engineer
  • In-depth understanding of data management (e.g. permissions, recovery, security and monitoring)
  • Knowledge of software development and user interface web applications
  • Experience with SQL
  • Excel and Excel VBA
  • Access and Access VBA
  • DAX Language for Power pivot and Power BI
  • Familiarity working with .Net Framework, JavaScript, HTML and Oracle
  • Excellent analytical and organization skills
  • An ability to understand front-end users requirements and a problem-solving attitude
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • BSc degree in Computer Science or relevant field.
  • Strong communication skills in English required, knowledge of French can be an advantage.

Desirable

  • Engineering and or construction background.
