Job Description

This company is looking for a Principal Technical Safety Engineer to join the business, to lead the Technical safety engineering across a number of key projects. It is expected the individual would be have experience in Brownfield and Greenfield projects, covering Front End Engineering Design and Engineering, Procurement and Construction work.

Experience Required
  • Minimum of 12 years general engineering experience with at least 7 years in the Process & Energy business sector focusing on the design office
  • Responsible for delivery of all Technical Safety project activities and deliverables within budget and schedule
  • Lead formal process safety assessments such as HAZID, HAZOP, SIL target setting (e.g. LOPA), and other safety reviews
  • Carry out qualitative and quantitative risk assessments, including Fire and Explosion Risk Assessments (FERA) and implement recommendations including, classified hazardous areas F&G detection, fire protection (active & passive) etc.
  • Support to projects on regulatory requirements including COMAH, DSEAR, PSR, and CDM
  • Produce and review specifications, data sheets, schedules, study reports, and design calculations; ensuring that they conform to engineering quality, competence, and project management systems
  • Develop safety engineering philosophies, design HSE plans, safety specifications, equipment specifications and monitor project/contractor/vendor compliance to these
    Provide sound technical advice and solutions to a diversity of technical problems within the discipline
  • Attend client meetings and communicate issues with other engineers as required
  • Adhere to, and comply with, relevant project, client and discipline specific procedures
  • Ensure self-awareness of relevant regulatory framework, legislation changes, initiatives and industry technology developments
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of the fundamentals of process safety and environmental engineering methodologies, software systems, and design practices
  • Provision of guidance and support on appropriate safety and environmental engineering
Qualifications Needed
  • BSc / BEng in an appropriate engineering discipline with a minimum of 12 years’ experience
  • Chartered Engineer
  • IChemE Registered Professional Process Safety Engineer
  • Certified Process Hazard and Risk Assessment Engineer
  • Certified Hazard Study leader
  • CDM Principal Designer experience
  • Fire protection engineering experience
  • CO2 and H2 experience
