Job Description

Nuclear Waste Services has 2 vacancies for Systems Engineers to join its busy team, flexible working across the NWS estate.

As a Systems Engineer you will manage requirements and other systems engineering processes across NWS projects and other technical disciplines. This includes the elicitation and lifecycle management of requirements relating to disposal, treatment, and waste packaging systems.

More widely, the role holder will also contribute to developing a systems engineering approach within NWS and implementing the relevant processes to programmes and projects.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Elicit requirements and specifications across NWS projects and manage these to ensure they are approved, current and aligned with the controlled knowledge base.
  • Develop and implement change controls to requirements, specifications, and other configured items.
  • Facilitate workshops and other forms of cross-functional working to apply relevant Systems Engineering processes.
  • Support the development and control of system models and technical baseline configurations on behalf of projects and programmes.
  • Provide cross-functional support to projects using in developing and applying a Systems Engineering approach, including training, and coaching in SE processes.

In addition, the post-holder will undertake other activities commensurate with their skills and experience as and when required.

Experience Required

Essential

  • Degree in a science or engineering subject or other equivalent accredited learning
  • Experience of systems engineering and requirements management.
  • Ability to plan and manage interactive programmes of work to ensure milestones are achieved and delivered to the required standard.
  • Proven track record of producing technical documentation within time, cost, and quality constraints and for a range of audiences.
  • Good task management skills, including the management of contractors and the ability to work on parallel tasks.
  • Good facilitation, interpersonal and team working skills.

Desirable

  • Experience of the nuclear industry and nuclear decommissioning
  • Knowledge of the key principles of the disposal system safety case and the scientific basis for disposal of radioactive waste.
  • Membership of a relevant professional body.
  • Have or be working towards registration with a relevant professional body.
  • Experience of managing technical configuration baselines or technical configured items.
  • Awareness of systems modelling methods and ModelBased Systems Engineering (MBSE).
