Job Description

Altrad UK currently has an opportunity for an HSEQW Advisor to join its busy team at Motherwell in Scotland.

As HSEQW Advisor, you will provide safety leadership and management of all Health, Safety, Environmental, Quality and wellbeing related issues across the Motherwell Bridge sites and be instrumental in driving excellence and performance throughout the Company.

You will be experienced in working within a multi-disciplined project management team and will be experienced in managing, developing, implementing and improving health and safety management systems, in a wide range of Occupational Health and Safety Management roles.  Reporting to the Operations Director and working closely with, all stakeholders to ensure compliance with safety legislation, guidance and industry best practice.

The role will require a degree of flexibility in relation to travelling and spending time away from home.  The role will also require some physical ability.

  • Must hold a full driving licence
  • Must be prepared to travel, sometimes at short notice
  • Must have experience in providing support for multiple sites/locations
  • Must be client facing 
  • Must be commercially orientated 
  • Must be familiar with entering and working within confined spaces
  • Must be familiar with accessing and working at heights
  • Must be able to wear respiratory protective equipment and successfully undertake a face fit test.
     
Roles and Responsibilities
  • To take an active role within the UK HSEQW Performance team whilst maintaining day to day responsibility for Health, Safety, Environment, Quality and Wellbeing and the achievement of Excellence within the Motherwell Bridge Business Unit 
  • To be the key focal point for Altrad Motherwell Bridge linking all areas across various clients’ sites and all other opportunities ensuring a consistent message and standards application working with Operational Management, internal and external customers and external legislative bodies
  • To ensure compliance with AIMS and defined HSEQW controls.
  • To drive continuous improvement in all areas of operations across the Motherwell Bridge Business Unit
  • To support the winning work process through development and maintenance of proposal information
  • Ensure forums that promote effective communication and information sharing and learning are established across Motherwell Bridge Business Unit
  • To build and develop long term relationships with internal and external customers
  • To proactively lead and mentor site  personnel driving ownership, positive behaviours and high standards
  • Working with the Director General  and Operations Director to embed and drive a culture of excellence throughout the region and the deliver of actions associated with this goal
  • To be the primary contact point on HSEQW matters for external customers, local internal customers and external legislative bodies within the Motherwell Bridge Business Unit 
  • Responsible for advising management on the HSEQW performance of the Business Unit and functional teams via analysis and reports as required
  • Proactively analyse leading and lagging data to identify deviations, root causes and prepare recommendations for improvement in performance
  • Actively support the UK in the implementation of the Motherwell Bridge Business Unit HSEQW Performance Improvement and development plans
  • Lead the Site Operational Teams including monitoring and the reviewing of performance and compliance with the UK Regional HSEQW Policies, Management System and standards, processes and management systems
  • Ensure all incidents have an effective investigation and root cause analysis concluded (where required), working with the operations lead to ensure the most appropriate person leads the process. Ensure findings are documented and appropriate actions plans are agreed, ensuring a Fair and Just Culture approach is followed and delivered and all LFE is share across the business
  • Offer support to the quality and technical services team from the perspective of having an awareness of quality principles and driving that understanding through the HSEQW team.
  • Maintain the structure, people, processes, systems, core competencies, and culture required to achieve the HSEQW plan and lead and manage the change required
  • Carry out surveillance and compliance audits across the Business Unit delivery including its supply chain
  • To support, own and drive the HSEQW areas of the Motherwell Bridge Business Unit Strategy incorporating and understanding the Corporate and UK strategy and ensure appropriate support is given across teams
  • To clearly assign responsibilities and tasks to each area of the Business Unit establishing an effective control to ensure that individuals have the necessary resources and authority and perform to required standards
  • To implement Corporate and Business Unit HSEQW KPIs and targets are understood and delivered, working in tandem with the Operational function
  • Support the organisation in maintaining all applicable ISO accreditations
  • Develop relations with Customer counterparts with a view to proactively sharing information and learning
  • Actively promote the organisations ED behavioural safety programs and initiatives
  • Deploy industry HSEQW standards and best-practice, legislative changes and external trends and developments in HSEQW management, ensuring management of change across all areas ensuring compliance
     
Experience Required
  • NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent, Chartered membership preferred but not essential, or equivalent 
  • Relevant and demonstrable experience of safety management in related industries
  • Knowledge and expertise of HSEQW management (strategic and operational) practices, standards, systems and processes relevant to the operations of the group
  • Sound knowledge of HSEQW legislation, industry and best-practice standards and their relevance to the group
  • Knowledge and experience in applying continuous improvement principles.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and demonstration of working well within teams.
  • IT literate
  • Demonstration of leading improvement actions
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001, 14001 and 18001 philosophy and principles
  • Working Knowledge of ISO 45001 & ISO 50001 
  • Ability to undertake causal analysis to identify root causes of incidents
  • Ability to interface and represent the business with customers and suppliers
