Job Description

Altrad currently have opportunities for a HSE Manager to join our Fawley team, near Southampton.

As part of this role, you will carry out Risk assessments and TRAs for the site teams and encourage and support the 2 safety advisors in the safety dept team.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Actively encourage and show visibility with the clients LPS policy and procedures (LPSA)
  • Review JLAs on a regular basis and update as necessary
  • Review LPOs which outline safe operational procedures which identify and consider all relevant hazards
  • Carry out regular site inspections to check policies and procedures are being properly implemented and download on the company portal
  • Ensure working practices are safe and comply with legislation
  • Support 1st and 2nd line supervision with the site LPS system and keep the client informed of progress
  • Compile monthly Safety Recognitions and submit to client for approval before issue of vouchers
  • Prepare and present monthly LPS data which is shared with the client in the form of the Scorecard
  • Actively participate in company inductions for all new starts
  • Conduct random D & A tests on a weekly basis
  • Oversee that all temporary outbuildings in Altrad care are in current certification as per the clients SWPs
  • Prepare health and safety strategies and develop internal comms
  • Produce H & S plans for the sites numerous unit shut downs
  • Lead all accident and incident investigations and record on the company’s portal and share with the client
  • Produce and submit to the client the Annual Contractor Safety Stewardship plan
  • Keep records of inspection findings and produce reports that suggest improvements
  • Keep up to date with new legislation and maintain a working knowledge of all Health and Safety Executive (HSE) legislation and any developments that affect the employer's industry
  • Produce management reports, RESET moments and safety bulletins
  • Advise on a range of specialist areas, e.g. WAH, Fire regulations, Hazardous substances, Noise, and occupational diseases.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills in order to explain health and safety processes to a range of people and to give presentations to groups

  • Physical fitness, as your work will involve time on large-scale units and on other outdoor sites.
  • Support the Hardley Facility, in all H& S matters and other satellite sites in the area.
  • Liase with the estates team in keeping the Altrad portable outbuildings, compliant in regard electrical certification.
Experience Required
  • Construction background with a minimum 5 years’ experience.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills in order to explain HSE procedures and expectations to a range of people 
  • Working knowledge of the Health and Safety Regulations 
  • Experience of interactions with Regulators, presenting and hosting Site visits.
  • Suitable site experience in a similar role, preferably in the construction or nuclear industry  
  • Willing to undertake Level 3 Award in Education & Training / PTLLS or equivalent if required 
  • Basic understanding of Nuclear Site Licence Conditions 
  • An investigative mind and a keen eye for detail 
  • Ideally experience of Mechanical, Electrical, HVAC, Scaffolding & Coatings.
Qualifications Needed
  • Chartered IOSH Member or Working towards Chartership
  • NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent
