Midlands Nuclear has taken a significant step toward integrating nuclear power into the region’s future low-carbon energy mix by examining and assessing potential sites for new power stations. 

The siting study, commissioned and funded by Midlands Net Zero Hub on behalf of Midlands Nuclear and delivered by Equilibrion, assesses where and how nuclear energy could supply low-carbon electricity, hydrogen, and sustainable fuels for industry, transport, and homes.

Celebrating a major milestone for the Ellison Institute of Technology Oxford, Laing O’Rourke and EIT have signed the main contract for delivery of this new world class research and development facility in Oxford.

The state-of-the-art facility will bring together scientists, technologists, policy makers, economists and entrepreneurs to bring scientific discovery to real-world solutions.

Sizewell C is forming an alliance with three leading construction companies who will deliver the main civil works at the new power station in Suffolk.

A Programme Alliance Agreement has been signed between Sizewell C, Laing O’Rourke Balfour Beatty, and Bouygues Travaux Publics who together form the Civil Works Alliance.

The CWA brings the construction companies together with Sizewell C into a single delivery organisation. It will employ between 3,000-4,000 workers over the 8-year civils programme.

Aker Solutions has signed a significant[1] contract with Dragados Offshore to deliver the steel substructure for the 2GW HVDC converter station for the BalWin2 offshore wind grid connection system in Germany, developed by Amprion Offshore GmbH.

Reference is made to the stock exchange release published on February 10, 2025. With this contract award, Dragados has exercised the option for the second HVDC converter station for the BalWin development in Germany.

The pioneering floating offshore windfarm Green Volt, based off the Northeast coast of Scotland, has awarded front-end engineering and design (FEED) Phase 1 contracts to two sets of leading engineering companies:

Balfour Beatty VINCI have successfully slid the first part of a major 320-metre-long viaduct into position that will carry high speed trains across the M6 near Birmingham Airport.

The first stage of the project – delivered this weekend – saw the ‘East Deck’ of the M6 South viaduct slid 119m out over a slip road adjacent to the motorway.

To reduce disruption for motorists, the viaduct deck is being assembled to one side and slid across the motorway over three weekends, with each part pushed out before later sections are added behind them.

A team of design engineer graduates from Sellafield Ltd won the the Quality Education category at the prestigious Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) Young Engineers Awards for Innovation and Sustainability.

Thanks to the Site Ion Exchange Plant at Sellafield, we can remove the majority of radioactive isotopes from water used in our nuclear operations, ensuring that any water we discharge into the sea is safe and well within permitted discharge limits.

What is the Site Ion Exchange Plant (SIXEP)?
SIXEP filters and removes radioactive isotopes – such as Caesium and Strontium – from water that’s been used in nuclear operations across the Sellafield site so that those isotopes aren’t discharged into the sea.

Balfour Beatty, the international infrastructure group, today announces that it has been awarded an £833 million contract by Technip Energies to act as the construction partner for Net Zero Teesside Power – an Onshore Power, Capture and Compression project and poised to be the world’s first gas-fired power station with carbon capture and storage.
