The Transport Manager - Nuclear is responsible for planning, preparing, and supervising the safe, secure, and fully compliant transport of Radioactive Material (RAM). The role supports the Lead Transport Manager in managing package interfaces, cargo handling, and landside transport operations, ensuring all activities meet stringent regulatory, safety, and quality requirements.
In addition to managing routine transports, the Transport Manager provides support across asset management, lifting operations, and radiological protection services. All work must align with the organisation’s Quality Management System and Transport of Nuclear Cargo processes.
Transport Planning & Execution
- Support the full transport cycle from initiation through to close‑out, ensuring all activities are delivered safely and compliantly.
- Manage routine RAM transports under the supervision of the Lead Transport Manager where required.
- Deliver RAM transport operations in line with business needs, regulatory requirements, and agreed transport schedules.
Contract & Asset Oversight
- Act as Responsible Superintending Officer for contracts covering storage, inspection services, and package leasing.
- Support the maintenance and care of NDA‑owned and third‑party transport assets (excluding ships).
- Witness and verify that operational assets meet regulatory maintenance requirements and are available to support transport schedules, including oversight of spares usage and management.
Safety, Compliance & Assurance
- Ensure all transport activities comply with nuclear transport regulations, safety standards, and organisational procedures.
- Generate and manage operational and delivery risk assessments for UK and overseas transport activities.
- Maintain high standards of documentation, traceability, and assurance throughout the transport lifecycle.
Coordination & Stakeholder Engagement
- Work closely with internal teams, external partners, and regulatory bodies to support safe and efficient transport operations.
- Provide clear communication and coordination across all stakeholders involved in RAM transport activities.
