Safe Train Operation

Operate trains safely and correctly in accordance with GE/RT8000 and all associated railway documentation.

Comply with all company procedures and operational instructions.

Adjust driving techniques to suit weather conditions and comply with all speed limits.

Carry out train preparation, shunting, and Traffic Examination duties on relevant rail vehicles.

Competency & Route Knowledge

• Maintain full compliance with the DRS Competency Management System (CMS).
• Develop, maintain, and retain route and traction knowledge as directed by Regional Operations Development Managers and Operations Managers.
• Monitor personal competency levels and arrange refresher checks before expiry.
• Follow the route knowledge request procedure and ensure all required knowledge is current.

Documentation & Reporting

• Complete all required documentation, including reports, hazard logs, and accident book entries, in a timely manner.
• Ensure all publications, notices, and operational updates are read, acknowledged, and kept up to date.
• Carry relevant notices and ensure notice cases are checked where applicable.
• Make amendments to publications as issued.

Safety, Security & Compliance

• Work safely at all times and follow all relevant risk assessments.
• Attend mandatory training, safety days, and exercises as required by DRS.
• Maintain responsibility for personal PPE and ensure correct ID/P4 is carried on site.
• Be aware of current security threat levels and follow all security procedures.
• Report security incidents promptly and appropriately.
• Obtain and retain SC‑level security clearance.
• Ensure full compliance with the company handbook and all safety requirements.

Operational Support

• Ensure Traffic Examination checks are completed when required.
• Support operational activities by maintaining accurate records and reporting any issues promptly.
• Meet all assessment criteria and maintain high professional standards at all times.
