Job Description

Nuclear Waste Services has a vacancy for two Plant Engineering Technicians working with the System Engineering Team at the LLWR site in Seascale, Cumbria.

The System Engineering team provides an Operational Engineering service to LLWR Site acting as the technical “owner” of site assets. This is achieved by developing and maintaining expertise on assigned plant system(s) and/or area(s) and to use this knowledge to improve facility reliability and safety by ensuring the overall performance, safety, condition and associated documentation of these assigned systems are maintained to a high standard.

The Plant Engineering Technician is a multi-disciplinary role and serves to increase the quality of asset health, performance & information for LLWR systems.

Roles and Responsibilities

Evaluating system performance as follows:

  • Perform regular reviews of logs, system parameters, and work request histories and analyse trends for assigned systems.
  • Observe system operation and perform periodic system walkdowns to maintain a current awareness of system condition and performance and Environmental Impacts
  • Identify problems (especially recurring ones) with systems and system components and initiate appropriate corrective actions to achieve short and long-term resolution.
    Evaluate system performance/trends to identify the need for improving overall efficiency and reliability.
  • Present all System Health information using the LLWR standard systems to ensure the Asset Owner has enough information to make data-based decisions.
  • Assisting in the investigation of events and in the preparation of associated reports and root cause determinations.
  • Accumulating, reviewing, and initiating action to improve system performance based on information derived from reports and trends from the Event database and also any industry wide best practice information received.
  • Provide general support to the wider Engineering Team, including the Operational Technology Team, Lifting Appliance and Pressure Systems Engineer, Mechanical and Electrical Authorised Persons.
Experience Required

Essential

  • Successfully completed a recognised apprenticeship or equivalent professional qualification in an appropriate mechanical or CE&I discipline.
  • Relevant experience working in a Mechanical or CE&I capacity supporting an industrial facility.
  • Self-motivated with proven ability to manage and prioritise own workload against multiple stakeholders and competing priorities.

Desirable

  • Ability to engage and impact others and work effectively as part of a wider team.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven ability to collate, analyse and present data in a coherent fashion
