Nuclear Waste Services has a vacancy for a Lead Mechanical Engineer to join its busy team, flexible working across the NWS estate.
As part of this role, you will provide leadership of the Mechanical Engineering team across the total Nuclear Waste Services programme. You will also lead the delivery of assigned single, and multi-discipline, design projects to the required scope, quality standards, schedule and cost.
The role is in the newly created Technical function for NWS, bringing together former GDF and LLWR Technical capabilities into one integrated team under the CTO.
This role will be a focal point for Mechanical Engineering across all NWS programmes such as LLW, repository, HLW, and the GDF.
Build a team familiar with all Engineering work profile through active engagement with specific tasking and engage with design and peer review across the wider programme.
- This role is for the discipline covering capabilities and SQEP for PPE (Process, Plant and Equipment) and Mechanical.
- Lead / Responsible Engineer / Technical Authority for discipline specific context and representation to the Design Authority and Engineering.
- Undertake and agree Competency assessments for discipline
- Act as the Responsible Engineer for discipline specific activities – e.g. RE Mechanical
- Translate programme requirements to provide discipline input to engineering scoping and solutions
- Deliver and oversea production of design outputs working with the engineering team and other Technical teams e.g. Safety Cases, requirements, R&D, etc.
- Provide discipline engineering context through the complete lifecycle, including cost control, scheduling, resource management, metrics and learning from experience.
- Lead, direct, integrate, and control Engineering discipline activities to the required standards, and ensure effective team leadership, and performance driven culture.
- Provide ongoing assurance that discipline Engineering standards, guidance, processes and procedures are fit for purpose and ensure compliance.
- Management responsibility for direct reports within you team
- Manage supply chain contractors (for discipline and or where discipline is primary lens as appropriate).
- Working with Engineering Management in support of projects and this may include broadening opportunities to work across and build awareness of other disciplines.
- Develop strategies for success and implement, develop, and create appropriate quality management system and working arrangements to aid delivery of outcomes.
- Ensure design intent for discipline is developed and maintained. Coordinate and lead single discipline design reviews ensuring stakeholders are identified and outcomes provide appropriate balance to needs.
- Provide the focal point for our Intelligent Customer capability in any Contracts for Engineering work related to this discipline.
- Ensure arrangements for Designer and Contractor capabilities are implemented and oversea arrangements for discipline.
- Good first degree in an Engineering discipline and recognised practitioner in management of nuclear infrastructure projects or operations
- Strong technical background and a sound understanding of engineering design and safety practice throughout the lifecycle.
- Deep knowledge of industry standards, processes, procedures, methods, and principles
- Leadership, influence, and communication/interpersonal skills
