Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity to join our high performing Engineering team as a Engineering Technician. 

This is a key role strengthening the engineering capability within Repository Development (RD) Project and the NWS Engineering Department. It will have an emphasis on civil engineering information management, design support, site configuration baseline management throughout project lifecycles, measurement verification and validation to support contract management, as well as the provision of survey information to support RD.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Review and produce engineering drawings, three dimensional (3D) models in accordance with NWS standards, industry standards, other directives and best practise, to suit project requirements. 
  • Assist the Digital Earthworks Manager and RD Senior Responsible Engineer in managing the flow and control of digital 3D design BIM models and the integration with the NWS common data environment (Currently Autodesk BIM 360) for Repository Development.
  • Assist the Digital Earthworks Manager and RD Senior Responsible Engineer in liaising with Consulting Engineers regarding the design of digital 3D design BIM models for Repository Development, ensuring compliance with relevant processes and BIM requirements. 
  • Support Design Authority (DA) Technical Review process, by assisting in the validation and verification of civil engineering designs (drawings and digital models) supplied by consulting Engineers, providing comments and closing out queries with contractors and consultants. 
  • Assist the Digital Earthworks Manager in the management and update of the live services and legacy infrastructure (Configuration Baseline) during the project lifecycle and provide support for the LLWR Excavation Process.
  • Assist the Digital Earthworks Manager in the management of Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) and any point cloud survey information produced and provision of earthworks measurement to support commercial team
  • Develop skills in the field UAV surveying, including obtaining necessary qualifications required to fly the site drones throughout the project lifecycle and to support BAU.
  • Develop skills in field of BIM, including Autodesk products - BIM360, Revit, Civils 3D, Navisworks and any other modelling software adopted during the project life.
  • Undertake, manage, organise & specify civil infrastructure & topographic site surveys.
  • Preparation and verification of as-built drawing and perform checks against specifications.
  • Ensuring that relevant International and National Standards, Health & Safety and Quality Assurance requirements are used during the design and construction phases.
  • Production of engineering drawings from the technical proposals, schemes or concepts to meet project requirements.
  • To contribute to the engineering or project team in aspects of engineering solutions.
  • Where required, review, check and update existing drawings in accordance with Repository Site Procedures (RSP’s).
  • Participation in engineering study meetings, design reviews, HAZOPs, HAZCONs, Design Authority Technical Reviews, Document Review Committees.
Experience Required

Essential: 

  • HNC or equivalent appropriate professional qualification.
  • Relevant experience in construction/ civil works.
  • Knowledge of drafting standards, processes, procedures and methods with full understanding of underlying principles.
  • Proficiency in use of AutoCAD design software.
  • Self-motivated with proven ability to manage and prioritise own workload against multiple stakeholders and competing priorities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills.

Desirable

  • Experience of 3D design package.
  • Knowledge and experience of BIM.
